BIOGRAPHY

Bas Soetens (1988) is an all-round musician, properly educated and with plenty experience under his belt. At the renowned Rock Academy in Tilburg, he initially fine-tunes his drum skills. However, after learning the stigma that drummers would be deaf to melody, he decides to pick up song-writing and playing other instruments as well. Nowadays, he takes particular pleasure in writing songs on the guitar and piano. He’s inspired mostly by pop composers like Ryan Tedder, Max Martin and Bono. But once in the studio, his production talents might as well turn a pop tune into a rock track. Or vice versa, whatever the song (or artist) demands.

With his current band PYRO, Bas produced two well-received EP’s. Now, he’s working on their debut album. He wrote all of the songs, and just like his idol Dave Grohl, he records the entire musical skeleton – drums, bass, guitars and piano – himself. At home, or in his preferred studio: Audioworx in Hoogeloon. When a song or arrangement needs it, he enlists a musician from his extensive network. Since Bas is a perfectionist, his ambitions are high. That’s why he asked Niels Zuiderhoek (Kensington, Di-Rect) to produce the long-player.

Music Hub Brabant recognises Bas his talent. He is one of the artists they invited for their talent development program. With Marco Roelofs (Heideroosjes) as his mentor, Bas is now working out a plan to bring his career as a songwriter, musician and producer to the next level. He’s looking forward to set up cooperations with fellow artists to write, record and produce pop and rock songs together.

Career highlights

For his first band Monks Avenue, Bas writes the songs and takes care of the drums, guitars and backing vocals. They’re signed by Universal Music and chosen as Serious Talent by nation-wide radio station 3FM. The band perform in popular radio and television shows, and are the support act for bands like OneRepublic and Fiction Plane.

With his current band PYRO, Bas is selected to play traveling music festival Popronde, and they’re invited to participate in TV talent show The Voice Of Holland. After opening for acts like Navarone and Handsome Poets, they sell out De Effenaar in Eindhoven single-handedly. 2021 will be the year of their debut album (and hopefully of many live shows).
